David Bell was an avid hiker, but in all his years of trekking through woods and up and down mountains, he had never encountered anything like the monstrosity that crouched snuffling before him. It looked something like a cross between a bear and a boar, huge, covered with black fur shot through with gray. It had six tree trunk limbs and a tail like a possum's, except green and kind of scaly. Whatever it was, the creature was right in the middle of the trail, regarding David with mean little pig eyes, its breathing was hot and labored like an old furnace that might blow at any time. Now anyone else who encountered a monster like this in the wilds of southern Ohio would have done one of two things: run like hell or freeze, petrified But not David Bell. For he knew the secret of bees.
