She twirled in a circle. "And I do need the comb since I have lost the tie for my hair. Would you have something I can use?"
She looked young and hopeful. He took a step toward her and reached up to loosen the string from one of his braids. He turned her until her back was to him and lifted his fingers to her hair. It was as soft as he imagined. He pulled the length to the back of her neck and secured it loosely. "That will do until you have time to contain it properly." His throat was scratchy from the effort of speaking normally around the tight lump growing there. He let his hand linger at the base of her neck. His fingers brushed lightly along her shoulders and she turned toward him. Her skin trembled under his hand. Or did his hand tremble on her skin? He was not sure. Her lips formed words, but if she spoke them he did not hear. All he could hear was the pounding of his heart echoing in his ears. It was if he had run many leagues in a short time. She wet her lips with a long, slow swipe of her pink tongue. Kierigh groaned and leaned his head toward her.
