"I can't go on like this, Rhett. I can't go on looking into the faces of my clients and lying. I'm responsible for their safety. That madman could have come into the campgrounds, even watched us. This is more than I can handle."
She wanted to be taken into Rhett's arms, held in his powerful embrace, and hear him tell her it was all going to be all right. She lowered her chin, felt selfish for wanting Rhett's comfort, when it was he Oliver taunted. Tears welled in her eyes. Rhett whisked a loose strand of hair from her face, tucking it behind her ear. She swallowed down the lump lodged in her throat and looked up into his eyes. Only when Rhett held her did the terror of the situation cease to grip her. Needing to seek this shelter, A.J. brought her mouth to his and delivered a kiss soft as the moonbeams dancing down from the heavens. She retreated, licking his moisture from her lips. Wanting more, her hands slid under his jacket and felt the beating of his heart. "Don't keep taking me to places I can't go," he said hoarsely as her tongue skimmed the line of his jaw. "What's stopping you?" "I have nothing to offer you." "I'm not asking for anything." His hands banded her waist, lifting her to straddle him. "Don't think if you kiss me I'll turn into a prince." "I have no delusions about who or what you are, Rhett Porter." Hands gripped around the blades of powerful shoulders, she breathed warm breath on his lobe and said, "This may not be my fairytale, but there is magic here all the same."
