eBook Description: Corrine is near exhaustion on the downward trail. Pausing for breath on an open ridge, she hears a strange, whistling sound. At first, she is unable to identify it. Anxiety rising, she whirls about and raises her eyes to the sky to see the she-eagle plummeting toward her. She doesn't know whether to expect a greeting or an attack. She only knows she mustn't run. The wind from the eagle's strong beating wings whips her hair wildly about her face. The bird, its talons raised, its ear-splitting scream terrifying her, Corrine nearly faints before the spirit of her native American husband raises protective arms above her to return the bird's salutation.

Corrine thrashed through the brush toward Walter as the eagle swooped again. "Nayho, off!" she shouted at the bird, swinging her arm up and pointing her finger at him. The bird veered to miss her.
"Will he obey like a dog?" Walter questioned, crouching further under the brush. "He's not tame, if that's what you mean," she snapped, "but he does know a few commands. No, Nayho! Off!" she demanded again as the bird hovered above her. "Go!" She pointed toward the mountain. The bird continued to hover, back lashing his big wings. "Why did he attack me?" Walter asked from the safety of his briar patch. "Well, let's say you're wearing the right shirt, but the wrong face," she retorted, watching the hovering eagle. "Wrong face? What do you mean by that?" Walter exclaimed, exasperated. "It's the only one I've got." "But it's not Paul's face," she chided. "So, take off the damn shirt and throw it out into the open."
