Squire Algernon Eppingham hit Duncan Quimm on his head, which sent Quimm, arms windmilling, into a display case of tiny glass animals.
Except for an alert glass double-horse that scuttled away in time, the critters exploded into fragments that filled the air in the windowmaker's display room like a glittering mist. Quimm pulled his opponent off his feet and the two continued to beat each other. They rolled, grunted and groaned in a tight, frantic ball of fists and feet, punching and kicking, knocking things over, frightening innocent glass animals, until--
"Gentlemen, gentlemen!" Clarence Parsaval cried from the door of his back shop. "I'd be pleased to know what's going on here."
The big windowmaker filled the door, bald head touching the top, broad shoulders touching each side. His round face gleamed with sweat.
The two fighters halted in mid assault, like clothed and bloody mannequins, and looked up at the windowmaker. Then, expressions unchanged, they resumed combat.
In the brief instant they hesitated in their mayhem, Parsaval recognized them.
