And that was the main reason the Comyn could never approve. Alessandra Aillard was an intergalactic celebrity.

No self-respecting woman of the Comyn would allow that kind of public exposure to touch her, or engage in such a scandalous career. The Darkover-trained side of Lawton could see that in their eyes she was profaning the ageless native traditions of Darkovan dance, "perverting" and taking elements of the wild mountain male pride, and shamelessly incorporating them into her female wild but equally controlled modern dance sequences. That was his Darkovan side.

But the Terran half of Lawton marveled at her, at the fiery brilliant gymno-dancer, critically acclaimed in the highest intergalactic Performing Arts circles, and a recognized vanguard member of the Empire Dance Society. He'd seen holo-videos of her dance performances long before he had known that Regis Hastur would require this incredible woman's presence back on Darkover. He had seen her dance ... And yes, even now, Dan Lawton felt the seeds of politics grow and extend their clutches to envelop her. The Hastur was ever so subtle, and even this specific instance Lawton could see as a direct effect of the change, slow and sure, to which Regis was intuitively partial.
